The six-day Director General-level conference between the paramilitary forces of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India got underway in New Delhi Monday.

Although Bangladesh claimed it to be "very cordial and successful", the top level meeting could not refrain the BSF from launching fresh offensive along three border points in Sylhet region in last two days.

According to reports from 21 Rifles batalion in Sylhet, Indian citizens numbering about 20 entered into Bangladesh territory in Jaintapur border by boat on Sunday morning and engaged themselves in fishing in the Kendri beel. A team of 25 to 30 BSF members remained on guard inside Bangladesh territory to help the Indian intruders fish freely. The BDR on patrol duty in the area blew the warning whistle and asked the Indians over megaphone to leave the place. The Sylhet batalion immediately contacted BSF officials of Shillong sector over mobile phone and hoisted red flag making a red warning signal.

The Indian citizens made a short retreat only to come back again at 1-20 pm.

The BSF personnel, standing within Bangladesh territory close to border pillar number 1284/2-S, paid no heed to the red alert but ensured safe return of the Indian citizens after completing their illegal fishing within Bangladesh territory.
